Prof. Dr. Daniel Burgos works as Vice-chancellor for Knowledge Transfer & Technology (UNIR Research,, at Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR,, a young 100% online university with over 30.000 students, 1.500 lecturers, 300 researchers, and premises in Spain, Colombia, México, Ecuador, Perú, Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. His interests are mainly focused on Educational Technology & Innovation: Adaptive/Personalised and Informal eLearning, Learning Analytics, Social Networks, eGames, and eLearning Specifications. He has published over 100 scientific papers, 15 books and 10 special issues on indexed journals, on these matters. He is or has been involved in +50 European and Worldwide R&D projects like, i.e. Medici, Comanity, OpenMed, Intuitel, TENCompetence, etc, most of them with a clear implementation for underprivileged groups and social progress.

He was founder and Exec Board member of the European association for eLearning Telearc, the European Community of eLearning TELEurope, the Spanish association for eLearning TELspain, and the Mediterranean Network for Open Education OpenMed. He also leads the Spanish pilot of the only Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) project on encouraging STEM subjects in K-12 (Inspiring Science Education,

He is a visiting professor at Coventry University (UK) and Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL, Colombia). He holds degrees in Communication (PhD), Computer Science (Dr. Ing), Education (PhD), Anthropology (PhD) and Business Administration (DBA).


Prof. Dr. Daniel Burgos es Catedrático de Tecnologías para la Educación y la Comunicación, Vicerrector de Investigación y Tecnología (UNIR Research) en la Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR). Asimismo, es director de las Cátedras UNESCO en eLearning, e ICDE en Recursos Educativos Abiertos. Anteriormente, trabajó como Director del Sector de Educación y Director del Laboratorio en Experiencia de Usuario en ATOS Research & Innovation; y como investigador en la Open University de los Países Bajos. Su foco de investigación se centra en aprendizaje personalizado e informal, juegos educativos, redes sociales y especificaciones de eLearning. Ha trabajado (diseño, producción, coordinación) en varios proyectos competitivos nacionales y europeos como Edumotion, Intuitel, Virtual Mobility Passport, eMundus, Inspiring Science Education, HoTEL y otros. Ha escrito más de cien publicaciones científicas en JCR (SCI, SSCI), Scopus, Inspec, IEEE, ACM y otros índices. Ha estudiado Ingeniería Informática (Dr. Ing), Educación (Dr.), Comunicación (Dr.), Antropología (Dr.) y Administración de Empresas (DBA).
