Mistakes that limit the success of digital transformation in Higher Education Institutions

Higher Education Institutions have been impregnated with the technological advance brought about by the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and disruptive scenarios that force them to face a digital transformation in all its dimensions. From this transformation there are some lessons learned based on successful experiences and other unfortunate ones committed during this process. This article, particularly, identifies the main mistakes that limit the success of digital transformation in higher education institutions. To carry out this study, experiences compilation was based on a literature review on the subject, from 1980-2019. One of the most relevant issues identified was developing digital transformation processes responding to individual, multiple, separate, and uncoordinated initiatives, instead of through institutional policies of Digital Transformation from a holistic perspective. As a consequence, the latent risk prevails of not considering comprehensive solutions that give an assertive response to the current and future requirements of the Institutions that allow them to appropriate and take advantage of the new challenges framed in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
